What Is Richard Hammond’s Age?

Richard Mark Hammond was born on the 19th of December 1969 in Solihull, Warwickshire, England. His father’s name is Alan while his mother’s name is Eileen. He also has two brothers namely Andrew and Nicholas. It could be argued that automobiles run in the TV presenter’s genes as his grandparents worked in the Birmingham automotive industry.

Hammond grew up in Solihull as well as Ripon; he attended schools such as Solihull Primary and Ripon Grammar School. He later obtained a college degree from the Harrogate College of Art and Technology.

As a testament to his age, Richard Hammond commenced his career in the late 80s. He worked at various BBC radio stations, before transitioning to TV in the early 2000s. Since then, he has hosted numerous TV shows and specials most notably Top Gear and The Grand Tour.

Richard Hammond’s career success has not come without some challenges. The TV personality has been involved in two terrible car crashes in the course of his work. The first was in September 2006 when he was driving a jet-powered car during a segment of Top Gear. The car’s front tire burst, and it flipped, before eventually landing on the ground. Hammond had to be cut free from the vehicle before being transferred to the hospital. He was in a coma for two weeks and suffered various head injuries. These head injuries brought about post-traumatic amnesia, loss of memory and depression. The TV presenter spent about five weeks in the hospital and later made a full recovery. Hammond also suffered a fiery car crash during the filming of The Grand Tour in Switzerland in June 2017. His car burst into flames, and he narrowly escaped with only knee injuries.

What Do We Know About His Family?

Richard Hammond is married to a fellow journalist, Amanda Hammond née Etheridge. Amanda, who works as a columnist for The Daily Express, married Richard Hammond in May 2002. Hammond and his wife now have two daughters – Isabella and Willow.

The beautiful family primarily resides in a faux castle located in Herefordshire. They also have homes in other places such as London and Saint Tropez. Hammond’s car crashes have predictably impacted his loved ones.

In the wake of his 2017 car crash, his wife revealed that she has warned him that he will have to quit his job if he crashes his car a third time. She also disclosed that she had an uncanny premonition on the day of his car accident. Meanwhile, Hammond has continuously apologized to his family for the stress that he has put them through. He, however, has no plans to swap his driving show for a “safe cookery program”. According to him, accidents would happen no matter how many precautions one takes. Additionally, he and his co-hosts are all middle-aged men with families and careers. They would, therefore, not undertake any silly risks.

What Is Richard Hammond’s Height?

Hammond is also known as the ‘hamster’ and this is partly because of his size. The Solihull native has a smaller stature in comparison to his two co-hosts and career partners. Hammond is 5 feet 5 ½ inches tall and his weight is given as 64kg. As for his physical features, his hair color is black while his eye colour is dark brown.

On the other hand, fellow co-host, Jeremy Clarkson, stands at a towering 6 feet 5 inches and his weight is given as 107kg. While James May is 5 feet 11 ¾ inches tall (1.82) and his weight is given as 93kg or 205lbs.

Meanwhile, Hammond lost a bit of his height after his 2017 accident in the Swiss Alps. The crash smashed the bottom bit of his knees and medics later informed him that this reduced his height by 7mm.
