Marcos Alonso Pena Cause Of Death: What Happened To Marcos Alonso’s Father?

The father of former Chelsea full-back Marcos Alonso and a former Barcelona player has passed away at age 63.

In Spain, the news of Marcos Alonso Pena’s death after a “long illness” was verified early on Thursday.

His five-year club Barcelona expressed their “deepest condolences” before president Joan Laporta observed a moment of mourning during a press conference.

Alonso Pena began his career in the 1970s with Racing Santander before moving to Madrid to join Atletico. His son, also named Marcos Alonso, is currently playing for Barcelona and has continued in his father’s footsteps.

He hardly ever posted family photos on social media, but he did once honor his father by posting some pictures of him when he was younger enjoying a kickabout in the backyard.

Later, he would play for Barcelona, making 124 games and scoring 28 goals.

After that, he briefly returned to Atletico and then Racing Santander until deciding to retire in 1991. He also had 22 appearances for Spain at the international level.

The winger then decided to pursue a career in management.

Rayo Vallecano served as the starting point of his managerial career in 1995. From there, he managed Racing Santander, Sevilla, Atlético Madrid, Real Zaragoza, Real Valladolid, Málaga, and finally Granada 74.
